Don 'D.J.' Johns, 44
Don D. “D.J.” Johns, 44, of Grants Pass, Ore., died Sunday, March 23, 2008, at Three Rivers Community Hospital.
A visitation was held Wednesday, March 26, 2008, at Hull & Hull Funeral Directors. Private services will be held.
Don was born Dec. 31, 1963, in Grants Pass to Joanne and Virl Johns. He was raised in Grants Pass and graduated North Valley High School in 1982.
He worked for OK Corral for 10 years including being a chef there. On Nov. 23, 1985 in Reno, Nev., he married Dottie Starns.
For 24 years he worked in the timber industry including in millwork at Pottsville, as a timber faller, and as owner/operator of Sandpoint Cutters, Inc in Sandpoint, Idaho, for 15 years. In 1991 he moved to Idaho and, in 2007, moved part-time to Gold Beach.
His hobbies included working as a mechanic on top fuel dragsters including Don Sosenka's dragster, Mr. Magoo; playing pool; riding dirt bikes and 4-wheelers; and RV traveling.
He also enjoyed following the drag racing circuit; hunting; and floating the Rogue River.
Survivors include his wife, Dottie Johns of Gold Beach, Ore., and Sandpoint, Idaho; a stepdaughter, Lynn Byrns Harpe of Sandpoint; three stepsons, Danny Byrns Jr. of Reno, Nev., Gerald Byrns of Pendleton, Ore., and Clint “Buddy” Byrns of Grants Pass; his parents, Joanne and Virl Johns of Grants Pass; three sisters, Cindy Johns-Drake of Grants Pass, Cathy Johns-Day of Grants Pass, and Cristy Peters of Rogue River, Ore.; a grandson, Jeremiah Harpe; and many uncles, aunts, nieces, and nephews.
