Reasons to vote no for new property taxes

| May 5, 2008 9:00 PM

Now have recession by economic indicators, most economists, previous Fed chairmen Volker and Greenspan.

Inflation worst since 1995, increasing. Oil at record highs.

Residents experiencing hundreds/thousands unplanned winter repair/maintenance expenses.

Coldwater Creek, lumber, real estate, construction, automotive industries down. Residents not working or having reduced incomes. Lumber outlook worst since World War II.

Consumer confidence low and decreasing.

Bill capping property assessments failed. Property? tax reform no better than 05.

State increased sales tax to fund schools/relieve property taxes.

Levy cancels this relief. Is tax upon tax.

Levy takes part/all of your federal economic stimulus refund.

Assessor indicates ’07 median property appreciation 4 percent, 90 to 110 percent market value assessments allowed. 20O7 assessments 90 percent. Unlikely, however, theoritically ’08 assessments could increase up to 24 percent.

Taxing entities recognized need to provide relief reducing expenditutes, federal stimulus package, state budget reduction, county no detention center taxation, Sandpoint LID tax cancelation. Not LPOSD, out of touch with economic reality .

Levy wastes money. Example rubberize playgrounds. Same kids ride mountain bikes on trails gravel roads. Playgrounds snow covered 4 to 5 months. What does this accomplish? Are others.

Enrollment down. How about facility consolidations, less buses?

Education wont stop. Didn’t in ’06 when similar levy defeated. Facilities don’t educate, teachers educate.

LPOSD must make due with current resources in hard times just like property owners? Very bad economic climate to increase any taxes period!

Renters, property tax increases usually mean pass-along-rent increases.

Vote “no.”
