Every school will benefit from LPOSD levy plan

| May 7, 2008 9:00 PM

I am writing in support of the upcoming school levy vote. Although not in this district, I have worked for schools as an HVAC (heating and cooling) specialist for 12 years. Both of my sons attend local schools so I have some awareness of conditions that are in need of attention and the community’s financial support, and those are the issues I feel qualified to address.

The levy information sheet reflects that almost every school will receive upgrades to the current heating systems. I can tell you from my experience that this is money well spent which will result in annual savings on utility bills. This is a smart investment.

I am pleased that every school in the district will benefit from this levy in one way or the other. Of particular concern to me is the asbestos at our schools, and the levy information sheet shows asbestos removal will be done at eight schools.

I believe that the state of Idaho should be paying for schools, but that isn’t the way it is. I am more than happy to support this levy and vote “yes” on Tuesday, May 20.
