Hewitt leads Clark Fork to track win

HARRISON - Clark Fork's Bailey Hewitt won all four of her events - both hurdles races, the long jump and the triple jump - to lead the Clark Fork girls track team to a narrow win Thursday at the Kootenai Small Meet.

“She's improving every week,” said Cats track coach Frank Hammersley of Hewitt, the defending state hurdle champion. “We're hoping to keep her healthy enough with Regionals coming up.”

Mackenzie Quiroz won the high jump despite having eight stitches in her leg after slipping and falling into a bracket. Brittany Drayton won the shot put, and finished second in the long jump and discus, and Moranda Becker finished second in the triple jump.

Adam Denham won the mile and finished second in the 3,200 to lead the Clark Fork boys team, which finished a distant second to 1A power Kootenai. Zach Anderson finished second in the 100, Cody Bowers second in the discus and Howard Katzenberg third in the long jump to round out the placers.

n Clark Fork girls claim second in NSL championships, boys place third

COEUR d'ALENE - Bailey Hewitt won both hurdles races, and Adam Denham won both distance races to lead the Clark Fork boys and girls track teams earlier this week at the North Star League Championships at Lake City High School.

Zach Anderson, Pat Young, Austin Martin and Matt Belville teamed up to place first in the 4X200 relay for the other Cats' win.

Sabrina Ewing won the high jump in a school-record 5 feet, 4 inches, and also won the long jump and triple jump to lead the Coeur d'Alene Charter Academy girls to the championship for the third straight year.

Kootenai won the boys title for the second time in three years, and seventh in nine years.

The 1A Region 1 meet is May 16-17 at Kootenai.
