Keough has worked to lower taxes, protect lake

| May 12, 2008 9:00 PM

I would like to urge all Bonner County residents to strongly support keeping Shawn Keough as our state senator. As someone who has had numerous matters before the Legislature over the past several years, I can say without hesitation that Bonner and Boundary counties are more ably represented in the state Senate than any other part of the state. Shawn’s dedication to the people of North Idaho and her vigilance on behalf of the taxpayers, as well as her leadership and willingness to communicate any time and any place are universally acknowledged.

Shawn has been an excellent steward in trying to protect our lakes and rivers, and was primarily responsible for forming the Lakes Commission (upon which I serve) as well as providing the Lakes Commission with a budget and staffing. Now, finally, North Idaho has a seat at the table when it comes to the winter and summer lake level of Lake Pend Oreille, for example. None of this would have happened without Shawn’s help.

Without Shawn, the taxpayers of North Idaho would be suffering a terrible burden for education maintenance and operations under the previous scheme.

Bonner and Boundary counties would suffer greatly without Shawn leading our representation in the Legislature. She is always willing to talk through any problems with her constituents, and is not afraid to take on her own party leadership on matters of principle. By continuing to serve Bonner County, there is no doubt that Shawn will continue to advance in the Senate leadership, which can only benefit our area.

I urge everyone to vote for Shawn for the primary and in November.
