A 'yes' vote is a vote for a better community

| May 14, 2008 9:00 PM

So many thoughtful letters about the LPOSD facility levy have appeared in this space in past weeks. There is not much new to say, but now that the day to vote is upon us I’d like to reiterate three key points:

1. For the past decade residents in this school district have paid no taxes — zero — for school construction or major upgrades. Meanwhile, voters in surrounding districts have supported facility levies for remodeling, new schools and necessary upgrades. Now is the time for our district to begin to catch up.

2. The need is clear. Essential health and safety upgrades have been clearly identified and new construction is targeted to the two areas of the district where growth is occurring.

3. The Sandpoint Chamber of Commerce and Bonner County Economic Development Corporation are active supporters of the facilities levy. Business people understand that catching up and keeping up with our school facilities is a key component of being a successful business competitor.

A yes vote on Tuesday, May 20, is a vote for a better  community.
