District, like all of us, needs to tighten its belt

Regarding the school levy:

It seems to me that during these times of recession, everyone needs to tighten their belts.

I’m sure there are other ways to raise money for schools. How about fundraisers like “Toys for Tots,” bake sales or sale tax?

With a sales tax, if you can’t afford it, don’t buy it. With property tax, if you can’t afford it, you lose your home.

The property owners aren’t a bottomless pit. We have to live within our means, so should the schools. We just don’t need another tax.
