Farber Pro Soccer Camp returns, seeking sponsors

| May 14, 2008 9:00 PM

SANDPOINT — The Brian Farber Pro Soccer Camp is returning to Sandpoint for its second year, as the former Sandpoint soccer star and current MISL star will be putting on the camp in mid-June. Farber and California Cougars teammate Evan McNeeley will put on the soccer skills camp, as well as a coach’s clinic, at Centennial Fields.

Farber is intent on giving back to the youth soccer scene in Sandpoint that was so good to him and helped pave the way to a professional career. He credits the Strikers and Bulldog soccer programs for getting him to where he is today, and admits Sandpoint holds a soft spot in his heart.

“I’ve played in front of 20,000 people before and nothing compares to (War) Memorial Field under the lights,” said Farber, adding that he remembers looking up to the older players in Sandpoint as a kid and wanting to be like them.

He’s hoping between 90-130 kids take part in the camp and capitalize on a rare chance to receive professional instruction. The camp is for kids ranging from the recreational player to the elite player, and each camper will receive a bag, ball, t-shirt and other goodies.

Farber is continuing to seek out local businesses that would like to help sponsor the camp, which helps with camp costs, insurance, field time, and scholarships for players who can’t afford the camp. He added that the camp is non-profit, and all donations are tax deductible.

“I was scholarshipped through Strikers,” said Farber, who hopes to help return the program to its former stature. “Some of the kids that really want to come I will get them in.”

Farber also wanted to express a sincere thanks to the local sponsors who have already committed to the camp: Coeur d’Alene Paving, Litehouse, Spuds, Lana Kay Realty, Staples, Blue Sky Broadcasting (95.3 KPND), Northern Lakes Chiropractic Clinic, Six Star Automotive, Riverstone Realty, Sullivan Homes and Sandpoint signs.

Any sponsors that would like to help can contact Farber at “brian@brianfarbersoccer.com.” The camp registration forms can be picked up at the SSA booth at farmin and stidwell fields during the games on Saturday, and will also be available to download at the aforementioned website starting Friday.
