Bulldog girls shine at regional track meet

LEWISTON - Brooke DeMers high jumped 5-0, winning her fourth consecutive district high jump title at the 5A/4A District 1 and 2 Regional track meet Friday in Lewiston.

DeMers also won the long jump (15-10), edging teammates Brittany Groenhout (15-2) and Kelly Adams (14-7) for a clean Sandpoint sweep. The Bulldog girls have doubled Lakeland for first place in the overall team standings after the first day.

Kat Vardell was second in the 3,200 (12:15), Groenhout was second in the pole vault (10-3), Christina Johnson was second in the discus (32-5) and the girls won the sprint medley relay to highlight a strong day.

Freedom Watson (46-6) and Jimmy Byers (43-2) grabbed first and second in the shot put to lead the boys team, which is in third place overall.

The rest of the running events wrap up today.
