STOCKTON — It’s shaping up as a busy summer for Sandpoint native Brian Farber, who found out Tuesday he’ll represent the United States in the first-ever indoor World Cup soccer tournament in Montreal in late June.

Farber was among 25 invited players who tried out for the United States National Arena Soccer Team last Sunday in Las Vegas. There will be more tryouts around the U.S., but Farber learned he has already landed a spot on the team.

“I flew in at the last minute and I felt like I was the dominant player there,” said Farber, adding he is finally over a nagging ankle injury. “It’s huge. Representing your country in anything is sweet, and it’s the first World Cup.”

Farber also has a tryout with the San Jose Earthquakes later this week, noting that he has informed them that he’s committed to the indoor World Cup and his soccer camp in Sandpoint. He’s hoping they’ll be willing to work around those factors should he make the team.

Evan McNeley, a California Cougars teammate of Farber who plans to help out with the camp again this summer, was also at the tryout but has not heard if he made the team. Farber believes he has got a great shot to make it.

“In my mind he’s one of the best attacking defenders in the entire country,” said Farber.

The Brian Farber Pro Soccer Camp will be held in Sandpoint on June 16-20.
