Frank Dwayne “Toad” Schilling, 76, passed away in Sandpoint, Idaho, on Tuesday, May 20, 2008.
Memorial graveside services will be held on Sunday, June 1, 2008, in the Pack River Cemetery at 1 p.m.
Toad was born in Brainerd, Minn., on Nov. 24, 1931, the son of Frank and Alta Schilling. As a child he moved to the Denton area, with his family, and attended school in Hope. He served with the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict, and married Mable Gotham on Aug. 1, 1953 in Thompson Falls, Mont.
He worked in the construction of the Cabinet Gorge Dam and the Albeni Falls Dam. In 1961 he moved to Bellevue, Wash., and continued to work in construction. He worked on several of the major building projects in the Seattle area, returning to Sandpoint in 1974. He worked at the shingle mill in Colburn, semi-retiring in 1993. He was a member of the Western Washington Labor Union.
He enjoyed working on cars, pickups, fishing in Alaska, and picking huckleberries.
He is survived by his wife Mable Schilling of Sandpoint; six children, Frank A. (and Susan) Schilling of Sandpoint, David (and Michelle) Schilling of Eagle River, Alaska, Douglas (and Melanie) Schilling of Moose Pass, Alaska, Sonka Elcerio of Boise, Idaho, Steven (and Leah) Schilling of Smithfield, Utah, LeRoy (and Diana) Schilling of Anchorage, Alaska; three brothers, Clyde Schilling of Spokane, Wash., Ronald Schilling of Thompson Falls, Mont., Donald Schilling of Seattle, Wash.; a sister, Beverly Morgan of Princeton, Minn.; 12 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
His parents and two brothers preceded him in death.
