BOISE - Opting to play baseball for the first time in his senior season, one wonders what Kyle Gibson might have accomplished if he'd run track for a full season. Gibson posted the top finish for Sandpoint on a busy second day at the state track and field meet in Boise Friday, nabbing second place in the 300 hurdles, in only his second meet of the season. Gibson finished in 41.01, nearly a second behind the winner, but an impressive showing nonetheless for the four-sport standout.

Josh Kopsa finished fourth in the finals of the 100, running an 11.34. He also teamed with Trevor Johnson, Cody Hecker and Ethan Vest to grab seventh in the 4X100, as they clocked a 44.97, rounding out the Bulldog boys state meet. They finished 16th as a team.

Desi Hutchings, who finished second in the 200 at state last season, finished fourth this year, running a 26.20, more than a half second out of first. She also grabbed a fourth in the 400, running a respectable 1:00.40.

Hutchings teamed with Nicole and Melinda Van Dyk, and Brittany Groenhout to finish third in the 4X100, running 51.18, more than a half second out of first. It marked the second podium finish this year the SHS girls relay teams.

Brooke DeMers jumped 16-2 to finish fifth in the long jump, and Groenhout jumped 15 feet for 11th place. DeMers also finished 7th in the 100 hurdles (17.42), Melinda Van Dyk 7th in the 100 (13.10) and Kat Vardell 13th in the 800 (2:34.69) to round out the girls action. They finished
