Bulldog named to All-IEL team

| May 28, 2008 9:00 PM

Sandpoint sophomore third baseman Rachel Hammack, second to nobody when it comes to hustle on the softball field, was the lone Bulldog named to the All-Inland Empire League team on Tuesday, as voted on by the league’s coaches.

Hammack batted .290 on the season, scoring 11 runs and stealing 12 bases in only 14 attempts. Head coach Derek Dickinson sees a bright future for her in the next two seasons.

“The sky is the limit for her,” said Dickinson, adding that it was her hustle that caught the eye of the opposing coaches in arguably the best league in the state. “Consistent and aggressive play off and on the bases. Probably our most consistent hitter over the season.”

Lake City junior pitcher Lela Work, who compiled a 14-3 record, was named MVP of the Inland Empire League. Junior Amanda Edwards, who went 6-4 after transferring in to Coeur d’Alene, was named Newcomer of the Year. Amy Miller, who guided Lewiston to its first state tournament berth since 2001, was named Coach of the Year.
