Trio named to All-NSL team
COEUR d'ALENE - Clark Fork juniors Shaina Gustafson, Chelsea Macumber and Moranda Becker were named to the All-North Star League Volleyball team, as selected by the league coaches, for the 2008 season.
The trio of Cats were part of an emerging team this year, and will form the backbone of one of the top returning NSL teams in 2009.
Gustafson, a setter and middle back on defense, led the Cats in service aces and set assists. Macumber led the Cats in kills and blocks from her outside hitting position. Becker led the Cats in digs from her back row defensive position.
Head coach Carolyn Speelmon talked about each player's strengths and what they did to earn their way onto the team.
n Gustafson: "When she plays she has pure desire to win. If there's a ball about to hit the floor, you can guarantee she's there. She's always willing to sacrifice herself to make the play. She has some powerful serves and got on some serving streaks."
n Macumber: "A natural athlete. A powerful middle and outside hitter, she also helped us out a lot by blocking in the middle. She has a powerful serve and has been working on a jump serve."
n Becker: "As a back row player, she has the ability to pass and return well. While not our hardest server, she was probably our most consistent server throughout the year."
