It's time for a change in local party leadership

| November 17, 2008 8:00 PM

This past election was anything but a contest. Larry Hanna had the right idea. Don't waste good money running as a Democrat. For whatever reason the Democratic party in Bonner County is in disarray. Could it be the Democrats themselves? No I don't think so. I know many Democrats in Bonner County. They are good, logical thinking people who have been successful in life.

The liberals would like you to think that the majority of Bonner County residents are rednecks who hate the government and vote a straight party ticket. This could not be farther from the truth. I know Republicans who voted for Democrats in this election.

I have in the past tried to get some of the more moderate, well-balanced Democrats to throw their hat in the ring. I Could not get it done. They were not interested.

Whether they are or not, the general populace saw the three local Democrats (Orr, Crossett, Elgar) as liberals. There is a huge difference between a liberal and a Democrat. Unfortunately for the true Democrat, the leadership of the Democratic party in Bonner County is liberal. This takes the good Democratic candidate out of the equation early in the campaign season. Guilt by association if you must.

Unless the true Democrat gets involved in local politics we will see more of the same. I suspect that won't happen until the leadership in the local party changes.
