Sanity is alive and well in Bear Lake School District

| November 24, 2008 8:00 PM

On Nov. 22, Page 4, Daily Bee printed an article that I almost chocked up my morning coffee all over myself. I had to read it two or three times to verify what I was reading.

It appears Superintendent Cliff Walters of the Eastern Idaho Bear Lake School District will be asking his school board to cut school programs rather than ask voters to approve an override levy in a worsening economy.

This man deserves a very big medal. This man understands what is happening all over the country, contrary to our own school district and all who profit from it.

After attending the last workshop, if you could call it that, these people have no understanding what is going on around them.

It's really scary when they say they understand about the economy, but then say we need more programs and more teachers even when enrollment is declining according to their own records.

Note to the superintendent and school board please call Mr. Walters and find out how he learned to say, "No." I'll bet he knows it will hurt, but it has to be done.

Reality is sometimes a hard bitter pill to swallow, but take a big gulp because it's coming.
