Gustafson leads Wampus Cats to victory
CLARK FORK - In what is fast becoming a pleasant trend, the Clark Fork girls team once again dominated an opponent in the fourth quarter, notching a 45-35 win over Wallace in North Star League basketball action Tuesday night at Clark Fork High School.
Guard Shaina Gustafson had a somewhat unusual double-double, scoring a game-high 14 points to go with 10 steals, as she continues to create havoc defensively on the perimeter.
In all three of the Cats' wins, they've held a decisive advantage in the fourth quarter, when they seem to play their best. Taking a 31-30 lead into the fourth quarter, they outscored the Miners 14-5 to put the game away.
"We struggled at times but didn't pack it in," said head coach Dexter Vogel. "In the fourth quarter they stepped up and held it together. We kind of ran them (Wallace) out of gas."
Jessica Cartmell added eight points and eight rebounds, Mandy Martin added seven points and Amy Gannon six in the win.
Taylor Paisley scored nine points to lead Wallace.
