Dawgs claim junior tackle football win

| October 8, 2008 9:00 PM

The Sandpoint Dawgs No. 2 Junior Tackle football team controlled both sides of the ball in Saturday's 14-0 win against the Ferris No.3 team.

"This game was a highlight reel," said coach Martin Rodriguez.

The defense controlled the line of scrimmage, causing a fumble which Marcus Minnick recovered for the Dawgs and two interceptions, one by cornerback Tyler Pressor and one by cornerback Taylor La Chapelle.

The offense moved the ball well with running back Kyle Perry finding the end zone first on a run around the left side from the Ferris 35 yard line. Quarterback Dylan Kuzmich saved a busted 4th and 27 play after scrambling out of the pocket and connecting with Taylor La Chapelle for a 32 yard touchdown pass. Michael Plaster put up 78 yards rushing and made the PAT which, due to the degree of difficulty, counts as two points in Junior Tackle.

Coach Rodriguez was pleased with his team's performance, noting how far the team has come in their first two months.

"These kids have started from ground zero and have really come together in such a short period of time," he said. "Not only are they playing as a team, but their fundamentals are improving every week."
