Support for shelter is a mouse click away

| October 13, 2008 9:00 PM

It became increasingly frustrating to me as I've e-mailed friends and family with a link that all they have to do is click on to vote for our local animal shelter, Panhandle Animal Shelter, to win the most votes and receive $10,000 for the shelter.

That's it, no money donated by anyone who votes, just a contest by www.care2.com/animalsheltercontest/ that will donate $10,000 to our local shelter if we get the most votes.

I've gone downtown and left flyers, spoken with various people, all who say they love animals and would be happy to vote for the shelter. Yet, each day as I go back online to check and see how many votes our deserving, non-euthanizing shelter has, the only ones added are ones where I've gone to peoples' homes and per their request, added their vote.

I am disheartened and disappointed in the community.  We have a shelter that takes outstanding care of those animals who do not have a “forever” home. We are building an even better shelter, with clean new facilities, to care for our local homeless animals.  I, myself, have a dog, Zach, and a cat, Autumn, who came from this wonderful shelter. Where are those in the community who can take one or two minutes to vote?

Let's show the rest of the United States that we may be a “small” town, but we are a caring town of educated, capable people who care!
