Bonner General welcomes new physicians to hospital

| October 14, 2008 9:00 PM

It seems like Sandpoint just keeps on growing! As more people move into the area and the need for local health care continues to increase, we are expanding the Bonner General Hospital medical staff to keep pace.

We have recently named four new physicians to our medical staff, and are excited about the capabilities that they bring to our community.

Our surgery department has always been one of the hospital's active areas, but in the past year it's been busier than ever.

As the need for surgical services in our community has grown, we have added two new surgeons to our medical staff, and a third will be coming next April.

Will Magee, M.D. is the newest orthopedic surgeon on the hospital's medical staff.

Dr. Magee received his medical degree from Louisiana State University and completed his residency training at Oregon Health & Science University in Portland. He then went on to complete a fellowship in orthopedic sports medicine at the Tria Orthopaedic Center in Bloomington, Minneseota.

Nathan Kanning, M.D. joins our medical staff in the area of general surgery.

Dr. Kanning received his medical degree from the University of Kansas School of Medicine in Kansas City, Kan., and performed his residency training at Oregon Health & Science University in Portland, Ore.

Katie Schlotfeldt, M.D. is the newest addition to the hospital's pediatric medical staff, providing care to our community's smallest patients. Dr. Schlotfeldt joins us from Hershey, Pa., where she completed both her medical degree and residency training at Penn State's Milton S. Hershey College of Medicine.

We are also pleased to welcome Jonathan Fisher, DPM to our medical staff in the field of podiatry. Dr. Fisher completed his DPM degree at Osteopathic Medical Center, College of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery in Des Moines, Iowa.

He then went on to complete his residency training at Detroit Medical Center and his fellowship in Pediatric Orthopedics at Children's Hospital in Detroit before moving to Sandpoint.

To each of these health care providers, welcome to both our medical staff and our community. We are so pleased that you have chosen to practice in Sandpoint!

Lynda Metz is the director of community development at Bonner General Hospital.
