Dangerous behaviors should be punished

| October 15, 2008 9:00 PM

I am writing to respond to the DUI defender, Mr. Bernheisel. The woman whom he referred to as "a kind and compassionate soul," (Ms. Wert) is not an innocent victim of a cruel world. She is a danger to herself and others.

She allegedly blew a .19 (according to the Bee), nearly a felony level of intoxication, and this was not her first DUI in less than 15 months. She also nearly killed a police officer in the process. Intoxicated drivers kill thousands of people every year and deserve publicity and punishment. As the mother of a small child I hope to see these types of dangerous behaviours punished to the full extent of the law.

Many people deal with hardships in life without getting behind the wheel of their car while intoxicated. She is not a sad victim of an unkind society (boo-hoo), rather Ms. Wert victimizes society every time she decides to drive while intoxicated.
