Sandpoint Strikers to hold spring tryouts this week

Sandpoint Strikers soccer tryouts are this week for all boys and girls who were at least 9 years-old and not older than 17 as of Aug. 1, 2008. All interested players who were not on a Fall 2008 Strikers team must try out during the following times:

• U10-14 Girls and Boys: Wednesday, Oct. 29, 4-5:30 p.m., Travers/Centennial Park

• U15 and Older Boys: Wednesday, Oct. 29, 4-5:30 p.m., Travers/Centennial Park

• U15 and Older Girls: Thursday, Oct. 30, 4-5:30 p.m., Travers/Centennial Park

Players who cannot attend the appropriate tryout session should e-mail soccer@sandpointsoccer.com to request a separate tryout. We will attempt to accommodate players who have legitimate conflicts with tryouts.

Players should bring cleats, shin guards, a soccer ball, water, and appropriate apparel to their tryout session.

All players must submit a $75 tryout fee at their tryout session (this includes those players applying for financial aid). For any player who is selected to a Strikers team, the tryout fee is non-refundable and will be applied toward the player's registration fee. The tryout fee will be automatically refunded to families of players who are not selected to a Striker team.

Total registration fees vary by age group as follows:

• U10-12: $225

• U13-14: $250

• U15-18: $275

Strikers does not want money to be an obstacle, and financial aid is available. Families with financial need should submit a financial aid request at tryouts, along with their $75 tryout fee. Financial aid request forms are available online at www.sandpointsoccer.com and at Meyer's SporTees. Strikers players/families may incur other expenses related to uniforms, travel, etc.

Strikers teams generally practice 2-3 times per week. League play for the spring season usually begins in early April and ends in late May. League games are typically on Saturdays (with occasional weekday or Sunday games). U10-12 teams play 8 v. 8, as recommended by U.S. Youth Soccer and Idaho Youth Soccer. U13 and older teams play 11 v. 11. Teams generally participate in the Northwest League. Teams may attend local/regional tournaments.
