Don't re-elect officials who don't listen to public
Joe Young claims that he carefully considers “decisions that affect the whole community.” In these economic times, no decisions affect the community more than property taxation.
In 2006, I purchased a new manufactured home, took a copy of the sales slip to the assessor's office and kept the house as personal property.
In 2007, Assessor Jerry Clemons assessed my one-year-old home at about 25 percent more than new. I appealed the assessment to the commissioners. At the hearing, it became clear that Joe had not even read the evidence.
Even after presenting the indisputable evidence, of original sales slip and state sales tax receipt, Commissioner Young still voted against adjusting the assessment.
Commissioners Rich and Crossett had looked at the evidence and overrode Commissioner Young. Beware of re-electing county officials like Joe Young, who don't “carefully consider decisions” that affect individuals.
