Inaugural handball tournament this weekend
COEUR d'ALENE - The best players in the world are coming to Coeur d'Alene for a little handball and trick or treat at the inaugural Jake Plummer Halloween Handball Bash Oct. 31-Nov. 2 at Peak Health & Wellness Center.
The three-day, multi-division tournament will also include a youth clinic on Saturday, Nov. 1. All proceeds will to the Campfire Kids, USA.
"I'd like it to be a regular stop on the professional tour right here in Coeur d'Alene," said Plummer, who's been an avid handball player since retiring from the NFL in 2007. "We're combining the pros with the open division.
Among the pros are Clifornia's Emmett Peixoto, who is currently ranked No. 1 in three-wall handball by the United States Handball Association. Texan Allan Garner, the No. 4-ranked four-wall player in the world, is scheduled to play, along with Pittsburgh's Dave Fink, who's ranked No. 6 in four-wall and eighth combined.
They also have No. 7 Naty Alvarado and Danny Armijo, a 47-year-old who's ranked No. 26 in the world in four-wall.
A strong contingent of Sandpoint players are playing in the tournament.
