Children's safety has priority over business

| September 1, 2008 9:00 PM

Giving back almost $80,000 in grant money because two business owners are worried about the impact to their businesses seems outrageous to me.

While I know and respect both business owners in this case, the greater good lies in putting the crosswalk where it is needed, not where it is convenient.

Also, how does this decision effect Sandpoint's chances of having a second grant awarded to add sidewalks on Michigan if they don't connect to a crosswalk?

Further, if the City Council must vote to approve the application of grants such as this, why no communication? It seems they would have had ample opportunity to weigh in on the particulars.

I for one would like to see Mr. Boge stops making excuses for the city's lack of communication and just get it right.

Lastly and most importantly to our civic leaders: I ask you to put the safety of our children first in all matters.
