Let's move forward and build the bypass
Regarding the Aug. 28 article “Byway gets the green light article:”
First off, build the darn thing. How many times do we have to hear about another stinking appeal against the byway? Sandpoint has been discussing this topic for 50 years and that's a joke. The problem as I see it is that no one has to pay for how they negatively affect others. Whether it's a businessperson who feels their First Avenue business will fold, or another who feels our mud pond, I mean Sand Creek, will be hurt.
I respect both of these points, however, there is always a cost. The proper steps have been taken for a successful project and, in the end, it will be nice. Anyone who wants to appeal this project can pay for the increase caused by these delays.
If you went up to someone and tried to take money from their wallet, you would get hurt. These appeals have cost Idaho taxpayers millions of dollars and it's gross. There are projects in the state that are desperately needed and they will not happen due to the costly delays. Each day, these delays costs us all huge money. Bypasses have been proven time and time again in this county to be a positive aspect for a city and business do not fail because of them.
In respect to Sand Creek activists, thanks for caring but get over it. We all could be ostriches and stick our heads in the sand and hope the trouble goes away, but it won't. Traffic is going to get much worse and businesses may fail because people are avoiding downtown at all costs.
When you put in your appeals again, start writing checks to the rest of us because we are sick of it and can't afford it.
