Bulldogs entertain Colville in home opener
SANDPOIINT - The Sandpoint football team makes its home debut tonight against Colville, looking to build off of last week's strong showing against No.2 ranked Lake City.
Head coach Mike Mitchell says his team is fired up to play under the Friday night lights of Barlow Stadium, eager to show the home fans what they can do this year.
"The kids are pumped up to play at home," says Mitchell. "I'm excited to see where we are. I thought we looked good last week."
The biggest challenge will be slowing down Colville's double-wing attack, an offense straight out of the 1950s that is rarely seen in this day and age. The key to stopping it is to play assignment football and maintain discipline defensively.
"There's a lot of misdirection, we can't chase false leads," says Bulldogs defensive coordinator Doug Semones. "We'll need to get stops, get off the field and get some takeaways."
Mitchell says the game film of Colville shows a bunch of hard nosed, disciplined kids. They beat Lakeland 21-7 last year, and tonight's game figures to be hard hitting and tightly contested.
Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
