SBDC announces series of business training workshops
The Region II Idaho Small Business Development Center at Lewis-Clark State College is offering five training workshops during September, including workshops on supervising techniques and setting job expectations, and NxLevel .
n "How to Start a Business Boot Camp" will be held on Sept. 8, starting at 6 p.m. in Room 12 of the LCSC Administration Building.
Participants will learn business feasibility, self-employment assessment, initial market research, start-up expenses, financial feasibility, choosing a business structure, obtaining financing, determining regulations, setting prices, creating marketing materials, and developing a business plan.
Jill Thomas-Jorgenson, director of the Region II ISBDC at LCSC, will be the instructor and the registration fee is $10.
n The next workshop is titled "Supervising Technique and Setting Job Expectations" on Sept. 9 at 6-9 p.m. in Room 12 of the LCSC Administration Building.
This workshop will look at the responsibilities that are unique to being a supervisor and identify the basics of being successful.
The workshop will look at the basic practices and see how they can help, and how to effectively set job expectations that work for both the supervisor and employee.
The instructor is Tedi Roach.
n The difference between advertising and marketing are among the topics covered in the "Tell vs. Sell" workshop on Sept. 16 at 6-9 p.m., also in Room 12 of the LCSC Administration Building.
The workshop will discuss how to develop a marketing plan, how to advertise a business, and how to brand a business.
The workshop also will discuss how to learn to sell benefits and set a business apart from its competition by exploring the core competitors.
Thomas-Jorgenson will be the instructor.
n A NxLevel online class will run once a week on Sept. 22-Dec. 22 and had a special price of $200. Next year, the price for the course will go up to $495.
The 12-week online business plan writing class provides skills training, which includes the development of a business plan by participants. The class also provides hands-on practical guidance in bookkeeping, marketing, marketing, financial projections and negotiating with lenders.
Other class features include video of instructor and guest speaker sessions, a discussion board for participants in which to share ideas, and the ability to interact with SBDC counselors.
n A newer workshop offering, "Small Business Employee Compensation," will be on Sept. 23 at 6-9 p.m. in Room 12 of the LCSC Administration Building. The workshop will discuss 401K plans, benefits and compensation to help the small business owners.
The workshop also will help owners retain employees in the competitive world of benefits. The fee for the course is $25.
