DeAragon goal leads Bulldogs past Trojans

| September 9, 2008 9:00 PM

POST FALLS — Annelise DeAragon scored her first goal of the season to provide the winning margin in Sandpoint's 3-2 Inland Empire League win Tuesday in Post Falls.

Ellie Engel and Bailey Hewitt each scored in the first 17 minutes to give Sandpoint (4-1, 4-0 IEL) an early 2-0 lead. Post Falls (0-4, 0-2 IEL) answered with two quick goals before DeAragon's game winner late in the first half.

"This is the best 80 minutes of soccer we've played in a long time," Post Falls coach Rob Rowe said. "We gave up two goals early and in the past we'd fold when we go two goals down. But we rebounded well."

Sandpoint coach Adam Tajan, while happy to get the league win, believes his team can play much better, and will need to as the season progresses.

"Very average," described Tajan. "We're not playing up to our potential, basically just doing enough to get the W. They know they can play smarter and harder."

Sandpoint out-shot the Trojans 26-6. They host University Thursday at 6 p.m.
