NICAN should turn efforts to restoring creek area

| September 10, 2008 9:00 PM

NICAN redemption a possibility.

Help restore Sand Creek between the bridge to the park and beach, downstream to the railroad bridge over Sand Creek. Remove all marina fueling facilities to somewhere else with all fuel storage, pumps and fuel lines above ground or water for leak observation and to eliminate pollution potential. Move all overnight dock and boat moorage operations to the numerous new marinas recently established, both private and public.

Then let's add additional "T"-shaped walkways to the existing concrete walkway so that boats can motor in and tie up for downtown shopping and restaurant activities, eliminating the concentration of engine exhaust and pollution from a marina operation in downtown Sandpoint.

Finally, let's build a one-foot-high low water dam this side of the railroad bridge and maintain a shallow water level, cover up the "mud hole" and produce a park-like area in the spring and fall with a potential for a large ice skating winter park.
