School board deserves thanks for its vision

| September 10, 2008 9:00 PM

I am writing in to publicly recognize the Lake Pend Oreille School District board for granting Sandpoint Charter School's petition to expand to a high school of choice over the next few years. In the public school arena where dollars are tight, it is not easy to make a decision that may have an adverse economic impact on the local district.

The LPOSD school board exercised due diligence, asked the right questions and made a well-considered decision. The board and the administration deserve a great deal of credit for being willing to look beyond economic interests and vote for a larger educational ideal.  Charter schools exist to provide educational choices for parents and students that are open to everyone, not just those with the ability to pay tuition.  I believe that the board has voted in favor what is best for students and parents in our community.

Thanks again and I look forward to continuing our positive working relationship.
