Darrell Deen Horton, 56, of Elmira, Idaho, died Thursday, September 4, 2008, at his residence.

Funeral services have been held in Coleman, Texas.

Darrell Deen Horton was born June 13, 1952 in San Diego, Calif., the son of Charles Franklin Horton and Charlene Bates Horton Cole. He moved with his family from Olney, Texas to the state of Washington at the age of nine. Darrell served his country in the United States Navy where he armed and disarmed bombs. Following his military service, he worked in civil service in Seabeck, Wash.

He has lived in Elmira for a number of years, working as a carpenter building log houses. He was a long-time member of the NRA, an avid hunter, fisherman, camper, and hiker.

 Survivors include his mother, Charlene Bates Cole of Gouldbusk, Texas; one sister, Shirley Horton Cortez of Gouldbusk, Texas; one niece and one nephew, Stacie Reynolds of Round Rock, Texas, and Sam Reynolds of Clovis, N.M.; aunts and uncles, Lucille Day of Crews, Texas, Jimmy Bates of Dallas, Texas, Mary Jones of Kemp, Texas, Alvin Bates of Silver Valley, Texas and Minnie Chamberlin of Odessa, Texas.

 He was preceded in death by two uncles and his stepfather, Bill Cole in 2007.
