Bulldogs win decisive win over Gonzaga Prep
SANDPOINT - Junior Christina Johnson continues to emerge as a force both hitting and serving, blasting seven kills to go with four aces and 10 digs, leading Sandpoint to a decisive 25-18, 25-16, 25-23 win in nonleague volleyball action against Gonzaga Prep Thursday night at Les Rogers Court.
"Christina played very well tonight; she's getting smarter," said Bulldogs head coach Karen Alsager. "She's developing arm control and swing control, learning when to use her power and when to use her shot."
Linnia Hawkins had another strong game as setter, posting 15 set assists to go along with four aces. Piper Wahlin had eight kills and Abby Helander 17 digs for the Bulldogs (8-1), who had 16 service aces as a team.
"The last two matches have been more consistent, we haven't had that letup," said Alsager. "We're still waiting for that team that's going to push us."
Sandpoint is at Lewiston on Saturday.
n Charter drops Cats in four games
CLARK FORK - Katie Baker had 23 kills to lead Coeur d'Alene Charter over Clark Fork 25-19, 20-25, 28-26 and 25-17 Thursday night in nonleague volleyball action in Clark Fork.
Shaina Gustafson had 11 digs and seven assists to lead Clark Fork (3-3), Moranda Becker tallied six service aces, Celeste Komanec seven set assists and Brocklynn Thornton four kills to pace Clark Fork, which played Charter much tougher in their second meeting.
"The girls really played tough tonight," said Cats coach Carolyn Speelmon. "We had good transition on defense and made some nice hustle plays."
Tori Wiggs and Sabrina Ewing each had 17 digs for Charter, Britni Turkenburg 15 assists and Cara Verhaege five blocks in the win.
Clark Fork hosts Lakeside on Tuesday.
