Jean Crouse
Catherine Jean Eakin Crouse died Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2008, at Life Care Center in Sandpoint, Idaho, at the age of 88.
Born on Aug.26, 1920, in Wilbur, Wash., to Charles and Nadine Funkhouser, Jean graduated from Palouse High School and then graduated from Washington State College (now University) with a degree in microbiology.
She married Jack (Dr. Lawrence) Eakin in March 1943; and in 1945 they moved to Sandpoint where he set up a veterinary practice. They had three daughters. Jack died in 1968.
On Jan. 1, 1977, Jean married Bill (William) Crouse and lived on their ranch in the Selle area until moving to Life Care two years ago.
Jean's career as a medical technologist was spent at Bonner Medical Laboratory in Sandpoint.
In their retirement Bill and Jean enjoyed bridge and traveling.
Throughout her life, Jean was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Sandpoint, serving as a Sunday School teacher, elder, and clerk of session. She belonged to the P.E.O. Sisterhood, most recently to Chapter CA.
Jean is survived by her husband, Bill; daughters, Nancy (Larry) Glenn, Janet (Rick) Anthony, Anne Eakin and Bill's son David (Karen) Crouse; five grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband Jack Eakin, and her brother Bob Funkhouser.
She will be greatly missed by her family.

A memorial service will be held at the Sandpoint Presbyterian Church on Saturday, Oct. 4 at 4 p.m.
