CLARK FORK - Chelsea Macumber had eight kills and 13 digs, and Shaina Gustafson seven set assists and six aces, but it wasn't enough as Clark Fork fell 25-19, 24-26, 25-10 and 25-19 to Lakeside in North Star League volleyball action Tuesday night in Clark Fork.

"Shaina hustled to every ball, never let it hit the floor," said Cats coach Carolyn Speelmon. "Ultimately our passing went down hill toward the end."

Moranda Becker added 13 digs and Amy Gannon eight for the Cats (3-4, 3-2 NSL). Gannon put together a nice service run and Macumber hammered home two kills to seal the second game win.

Rian Miller went on a huge service run to start the third game, as the Knights built a big early lead and quelled the momentum that Clark Fork had after winning the second game.

Clark Fork is at Wallace today.

n Sandpoint dispatches Lake City

COEUR d'ALENE - Lake City is in the middle of a five-game skid and didn't do themselves any favors losing the first two games to Sandpoint before gathering themselves. It was too late and the Bulldogs rolled 25-13, 25-14 25-22.

Piper Wahlin had eight kills, Kaiti Lunde seven with two blocks and Koko James added 14 assists to lead Sandpoint (10-1, 7-1 IEL) in the rout.

"We're getting better at not relaxing," said Sandpoint head coach Karen Alsager, adding her team's goal is to beat everyone in league worse the second time around.

Linnia Hawkins added four aces and Abby Helander 11 digs as Sandpoint now turns its sights to revenge, with Coeur d'Alene, the only team to beat them this season, coming to town next.

"Since they beat us, the ball is in our court," said a confident Alsager. "I'd be very surprised if they beat us again. We can't wait for that night."

Britta Forsythe led the Lake City (7-12, 2-5 IEL) with five kills. Rose Brooks had nine digs and Jacqueline Adamson had eight digs.

"We didn't get things started until the third game, but by then it had snowballed out of control," Lake City coach Jennifer Kelly said.

Sandpoint hosts Coeur d'Alene on Thursday in the biggest game of the year to date.

n Bulldog boys throttle Vikings

COEUR d'ALENE - Inland Empire League-leading Sandpoint shut Coeur d'Alene out for the third time this season, led by Tanner Williams and Adam Crossingham, who connected on the first two goals.

Adam Crossingham scored in the first minute and Ben Murray smoked a laser from 35 yards out in the 80th to lead the Bulldogs (13-1, 7-1 IEL) past the Vikings (6-7, 4-4 IEL).

"We offered no defensive pressure on the first attack and they score in the first minute, which was ridiculous. But I thought the guys responded well the rest of the half," said Vikings coach Eric Louis.

"We had some marking problems. Murray's goal in the end was a thing of beauty."

Williams finished with a goal and three assists as the Bulldogs flat took it to the Vikings in the second half.

"We pretty much shoved it down their throat," said Sandpoint coach Randy Thoreson of the second half. "Got a lot of good looks and put away the chances."

Obaitek would get the equalizer in the 68th minute by putting in a rebound off a free kick that Alicia Mertz bent in nicely.

"Obaitek was there to bulldog the ball after we just kept hammering away," said Sandpoint coach Adam Tajan, already looking ahead to the next time the now 5A soccer rivals meet. "That's going to be a battle 10 days from now."
