IPUC needs to say no to greedy rate hike request

This letter is in regards to the Jan. 23, 2009, Avista request to increase electric rates again. Please consider the following: Using the KWH rates of September 2008:October 2008 — the rate increased by .08 percent.

November 2008 — the rate increased by 21.3 percent.December 2008 — the rate increased by 26.4 percent.

January 2009 — the rate increased by 26.9 percent.February 2009 — the rate increased by 26.7 percent.

If you, the Idaho PUC, grant their new request, our rates will jump to 37 percent over what they were in October 2008. Enough is enough already. Do your job and tell them to take a hike. Those fortunate enough to still have jobs, aren’t seeing any significant increase in their income, and many aren’t even sure they will still be employed in a month or two. Even in the best of times these would be considered very hefty increases.
