Bailiff leaves gun in lavatory
SANDPOINT — A Bonner County bailiff has been reprimanded for accidentally leaving his pistol in a courthouse bathroom on Monday.
The 40-caliber Glock was discovered by a member of the public in a first-floor bathroom at about 1 p.m., said Chief Bailiff Mark Johnson.Johnson said the weapon was left unattended for “a matter of minutes.”
The bailiff who left the weapon behind was identified as Glenn Bailey.Johnson said Bailey is “absolutely horrified” and embarrassed” by the incident.
Guns and other weapons are forbidden at the courthouse, although bailiffs and on-duty law officers are allowed to be armed. People entering the courthouse are required to pass through a metal detector and the contents of visitors’ bags are examined with an X-ray machine.
