Local shooters dominate pistol match
SANDPOINT — The 19th Annual Columbia State Rifle and Pistol Match was held on April 4, at the Leo Hadley Range in Sandpoint. More than 30 shooters participated in the event, representing clubs from Spokane, Davenport, Bonners Ferry and Sandpoint.
Tom Daniel, from the Kootenai Valley Club in Bonners Ferry, beat 19 shooters in the prone, standing and kneeling positions from 50 feet away with a .22 caliber rifle. To score 10 points, the shooter must hit a dot not much bigger than a period. Kathy Konek, representing the Sandpoint Rifle Club took top expert in the same class.
Matt Haggstrom, also from the Sandpoint club, shot with open sights to win the Sharpshooter category. Brian Ward of Coeur d’Alene was top Marksman.
In the pistol match, shooters shot nine different targets at a distance of 50 feet. The Kootenai Valley team was well represented and dominated the match. Mike Young was the overall winner, with Greg Mead taking first in the Expert class. Sandy Daniel won in the sharpshooter category.
Sandpoint shooter Richard Miles kept Bonners Ferry from making it a clean sweep by winning top marksman.
