Several Bulldogs set personal bests at home

SANDPOINT — Sandpoint sophomore sprinter Melinda Van Dyk cruised to victories in the 100 and 200 meters, one of many highlights for the Bulldogs, who hosted Post Falls and Lake City Thursday afternoon at a Tri-Meet at Sandpoint High School.

Zach Kuhl set a personal best in the high jump, clearing 6-0 to break his previous best of 5-10. He just missed clearing 6-2 on his second attempt. Freedom Watson unleashed a monster throw in the discus, demolishing his previous best by 13 feet with a toss of 150-3.

Corey Hoffman triple jumped 38-8 for a win, and teamed with Anthony Gold, Mike Hubbard and David Marienau to win the medley relay, rounding out the wins on the boys side.

Susan Kovalchuk cleared 9-9 to establish a personal best in the pole vault en route to the win. Christina Johnson, Adrianna Bucholtz and Jenny Thomas swept the discus, in that respective order, and Kat Vardell won the 3,200 to round out the Bulldog girls wins.

“We’re getting there, the kids are starting to compete,” said Bulldogs coach Dave DeMers. “It’s just nice to finally have a home meet.”

The Lake City boys and Post Falls girls teams won the meet.

Sandpoint is at the IEL champoinship on Tuesday.
