Merwin leads Bulldogs to win Invitational
CHEWELAH, Wash. — Jesse Merwin had her best round of the season, carding an 84 to earn medalist honors, and lead the Sandpoint girls golf team to the title at the 11-team Chewelah Invitational on Friday at the Chewelah Country Club.
Michelle Stone finished third overall with a 90, followed by Sandy Whalen (99), Charissa Chatburn (122) and Margaret Nieman (146). The Bulldogs team score of 395 was four strokes better than runner up Deer Park.
“We were the only Idaho team and it was kind of fun taking hardware from the Washington schools,” said head coach Jim Alsager, adding that Merwin was the picture of consistency. “She didn’t have any blow up holes, which was big on that course, which was wooded and up and down. She kept it in play and putted well.”
Sandpoint is at the Lakeland Invitational on Monday at the Links course in Post Falls.
