SANDPOINT — After falling to Coeur d’Alene 10-2 in the first meeting of the season, Sandpoint head tennis coach Kent Anderson said he felt his team should have won a few more matches and that the second meeting would be much closer.

His words proved prophetic Tuesday at Travers Park, as Sandpoint fell 7-5 to Coeur d’Alene in a tightly contested match. Sandpoint dominated the doubles action, winning all four matches between the boys and girls. Junior Mikka Nostdahl and freshman Jackson Bussard won their third consecutive match at No. 1 boys doubles.

Freshman Kevin Kirby scored an impressive straight set win at No. 2 boys singles over J.J. Kast, garnering the praise of Anderson.

“Kevin’s win was huge. That kid he played had that Agassi forehand and Kevin just took it to him,” Anderson said. “The whole team played with emotion.”

Sandpoint is at Lake City on Thursday.
