| April 27, 2009 9:00 PM

Ronald Earley, 67, died Saturday, April 25 at his home in Sandpoint after an extended illness.

A memorial service for Ronald will be held in the near future.

He was born Aug. 31, 1941, in Sandpoint to Geraldine Ruth James Earley and Theodore Earley. He attended schools in Bonner County and earned a bachelor of arts degree in sociology from Eastern Washington University.

In his 20s, Ronald was active in the civil rights movement. He held various jobs including a long stint as a pressman for the Denver Post. He returned to Sandpoint in the early 1980s to live near his parents. He helped care for his mother before her death. He never married.

Ronald was a voracious reader of religious and philosophical studies, mysteries, and science fiction; he loved his cat, Little Girl, and the staff at Bonner Animal Hospital who were so kind to both of them over the years.

Ronald liked to remember “the old Sandpoint,” and he enjoyed picking berries and going to the mountains, especially Caribou Lake.

He was a member of the Circles group through the Com-munity Action Agency and the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents. He held deep regard and appreciation for his home health provider, Jim Gunter, for longtime friend, Brenda Hammond, counselors Mona Kim-Brown and Sharon McCahon and Susan Drinkard, who shared his love of literature, flowers and good music.
