Protect area wolves for future generations

| April 29, 2009 9:00 PM

Wolves are again in danger of being removed from the Endangered Species Act protected list.

We are stewards of the earth and as such we must take care of it, and all of its creatures. Across the planet when humans have deemed a creature to be useful we have hunted it to extinction or nearly so, or pushed it out of its habitat because we wanted the land for our use.

The wolves are yet another example of this mindset. Because wolves are carnivores they have gotten a bad rap. As children we are taught through stories that wolves are bad. Remember Little Red Riding Hood or the Three Little Pigs? When was the last time a wolf was personally bothersome to you? When was the last time you saw a wolf ?

They are not overpopulating and walking in people’s homes and stores looking for food like the coyotes are in some urban areas. Who are the people that are calling the wolves bothersome? The ranchers seem to be holding all of the wolf cards here. They raise animals that naturally need to be protected from wolves and other predators. Doesn’t that come with the territory of raising sheep and cows?

Let us preserve the few wolves that are left in this country. I don’t want to show the children in my life pictures of this magnificent creature who used to live here.
