Heed flaggers' directions

| August 1, 2009 9:00 PM

SANDPOINT — Visitors to City Beach are being reminded that they are required to heed the directions of flaggers guiding traffic during construction of the U.S. Highway 95 bypass.

Construction officials say kids of all ages are jeopardizing their safety by ignoring flaggers directing traffic on Bridge Street. All pedestrians, bicyclists and motorists are required to follow the directions of flaggers.

The removal of surcharge material along the retaining wall for the new southbound lane next to the Long Bridge is complete, according to Parsons RCI. Stage 2 of the retaining wall construction is ongoing, as is Phase 2 fill installation for the rail line embankment.

Road bed removal along the recently vacated southbound lane is complete and construction is starting for the realigned bike path into Sandpoint.

At the former Lakeside Inn site, production pile driving for Pier 4 of the mainline bridge continues. Pier footing construction for Pier 2 of the southbound off-ramp is slated to begin in about a week.

The installation of permanent sheet and H piles for the abutment and mainline structure south of Bridge Street is pending. Site preparations are done for the southbound off-ramp and the common abutment, which clears the way for preliminary construction work.

In the shoreline extension area between the Bridge and Cedar street bridges, roadway sheet and H pile installation adjacent to the rail line is complete and the remaining fill for the shoreline extension will be installed at a later date.

n Construction updates for the Sand Creek Byway are available on the Web (itd.idaho.gov/projects/d1. Weekly update meetings are held at 11 a.m. on Thursdays in the Transportation Information Office, located at 202 North Second Ave.
