Stephen 'Cowboy' Barnett
“I may be a bad boy, but baby I’m a real good man!” The lyrics of one of his favorite songs say it all. Friends and extended family are deeply sorrowed by the loss of our dear friend Steve “Cowboy” Barnett. Steve passed away last Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2009, from a heart attack, while in the woods that he loved so dearly.
He was born May 1, 1960.
In addition to his great love for the outdoors, Cowboy loved spending time with friends and his dog Reno while fishing, hunting, picking huckleberries, exploring and going to the Mud Bogs. He loved dancing and enjoyed a good joke and a cold Coors. He had a brilliant smile and laugh you could never forget. He played hard, but he worked just as hard. His work ranged from doing beautiful, creative tile work to building entire houses.
Cow-boy loved his friends and had a funny way of giving them special nicknames. He was the first to help any friend in need of anything.
It was a great privilege to be a friend of his. He touched all of our lives in ways he never knew.
We will miss him greatly and keep him and countless memories in our hearts.
“In my dirty old hat, with my crooked little grin … I’m going out with my boots on!”
A memorial is planned at Long Bridge Grill on Saturday, Aug. 22, 2009, from 4-7 p.m. There will be a memorial fund established for his precious daughter Deja that he called “Peanut.”
