Fill out survey on milfoil treatment funding

| August 12, 2009 9:00 PM

I received via postal mail an “Aquatic Invasive Species Control Survey” from the Bonner County Public Works Department asking for my opinion on my preference on how to extract money from the community to fund future milfoil treatments since the state funding is coming to an end. It also asks for my preferred method of treatment.

I found it odd that this survey was addressed to my business and not to me personally. It gave me the possibly incorrect impression that a decision like this is a matter for business owners and not for the people of the county. I hope they also sent it to personal home addresses. If you didn’t get one, you can download it from http://www.co.bonner.id.us/publicworks/weeds.html. The form is anonymous so if you wanted to send in 10,000 of them, I guess you could (my Chicago roots are showing).

While the form states that you can take the survey online, you can’t, you can only download it. You have to mail it, or hand deliver it to the address on the form or any Solid Waste Collection site or give them the information over the phone at 255-5681.

Some treatments can cost as much as $37,000 per acre with a minimum treatment of 250 acres treated each year to maintain the status quo, so you might want to weigh in on this. Credit should be given to the folks at Public Works for asking for people’s opinions on how to spend it. It’s your money!
