Reprehensible hunter killed beloved dog

| December 5, 2009 8:00 PM

We lost our dog Frankie, who was about 5 ‘/2 years old, last recently while we were on our morning walk.

A reprehensible hunter shot him twice out of the four shots we heard. I say reprehensible because a responsible hunter would never do that. He was a dog that we loved very much — he was playful, gentle and friendly. He was a shelter dog but really he was a Wal-Mart dog because our friend Ed shows shelter dogs at Wal-Mart on occasion. My wife named him Frankie because when my wife saw him she noted that he had one partially-blue eye. Those of you old enough will understand why she called him “Frankie Blue Eyes.”

He was shot on the third switchback to a residential property with a house on it, off of Moonbeam Road that connects to Gold Hill Circle off of Bottle Bay Road.

Any of you who have a pet know when you loose the pet to illness or old age know that you’ve lost a friend and companion and your sadness is real and lasting. When you lose a dog to a nonsensical act such as this, the sadness is so much greater.

While I hope the hunter who shot our dog reads this letter, I wonder whether he reads much of anything.
