Proposal to charge beach-goers is wrong

| December 14, 2009 8:00 PM

On Dec. 9, I read about a proposed fee for use of City Beach by people who weren’t residents of Sandpoint.  A fee for use of City Beach is a bad idea, unless the entire county is given a pass. City residents can walk or ride bikes or take the bicycle taxis to the beach. Those of us that live out of town can’t as easily get to the beach. If you impose a fee it should be for all users or only non-residents of the county.  Personally I think it should be as it always has been — space available for the first to come.

My family has had wedding receptions, anniversary parties, birthday parties, church picnics and attended the Fourth of July fireworks there since before my father was a child, and he is 84 years old.

It’s like if those of us in Sagle decided to incorporate Springy Point and Morton launch and start charging those of you who don’t live in Sagle to use them. Sound like a good idea?

Most of us want fewer taxes and user fees — are you listening?
