Suspect waives preliminary hearing

SANDPOINT — A Priest River man was bound over Wednesday to stand trial for allegedly molesting an 11-year-old girl.

Dayle Scott Westra waived his right to a preliminary hearing and is scheduled to be arraigned on a charge of lewd and lascivious conduct with a minor on Jan. 4, 2010. Westra remains held in lieu of $100,000 bail and could be imprisoned for life if convicted of the offense.

Westra, 36, is accused of raping and sodomizing the girl on Dec. 3 in Bonner County. A hospital examination showed injuries consist with sexual abuse, according to court documents.
