Dare we think outside the box on levies?

| February 4, 2009 8:00 PM

Believe it or not, it’s levy time. The pro levy types say this levy isn’t permanent, maybe not, but the levy system is. Those in favor say your taxes will not go up, just stay the same. They are correct about the amount. What they fail to admit is that many locals have had a decrease in income. So many of us are paying a higher percentage of our incomes in taxes. That’s an increase with liberal spin.

The current funding process will only get worse unless someone is willing to think outside the box and devise a way to educate for less. The public school groupies don’t want that. A change such as a voucher system would create competition. What bureaucrat wants competition? Have you ever known a liberal educator that wanted competition? Wynhausen said, there are not enough private schools to take all the students that would choose a voucher. What does that say about public schools?

For some reason the LPOSD spends more money per student than many of the private schools in this area. Anyone wonder why? Many of the private schools in this area match or supersede LPOSD test scores. Anyone wonder why?

Bonner County has many residents that are just getting by. They have no choice due to financial reasons, their children MUST attend public schools no matter how mediocre.

What better way to bridge the gap between those that have and those that don’t have than by affording choice?

Times are changing, the public schools are not. Where are the children of our president and the grandchildren of our vice president are attending school? I guarantee they are not in public schools. So much for equality.
